The book we have made is the culmination of our work. It embodies everything we are trying to communicate, it is our masterpiece.

It is also the primary means in which we hope to raise awareness and funds for the charities we have chosen to support. By creating such a beautiful, elegant piece of art we hope people will buy it as much for its place on the coffee table as its educational value.

Below is a brief preview and explanation of the book.

Foreward

The foreword for the book contains three perspectives.

The first is written by Tomiwa Owolade. Tomiwa’s recent book “This is Not America: Why Black British Lives Matter" puts forward a compelling case for recognising the uniqueness of the Black British experience and identity. The “Black British Millennial Women” project is a reflection of the past, present and future of the experiences and identity of Black British women. By sharing each woman’s stories, successes, opinions it highlights the rich individualism and uniqueness of each woman and by proxy it shines a light on the Black British experience and identity. Tomiwa through his work on this subject is perfect to explain the importance of this.

The other two perspectives are shared by women who laid the path that each of us walk today. The ones who made a space for themselves and for others to follow. They know how critical representation is and express so eloquently the importance of it, explaining how this project is vital in providing a path and framework for future generations to follow by amplifying positive stories of success.

Page Layout

The book contains two pictures of each woman. The first page is in work clothes, the second in the clothes they feel most beautiful in.

The answers each woman gave to the questions we posed to them will not be included in the book. The reason for this is that the primary purpose of the book is for it to be a beautiful piece of art. The images of each woman are everything we hoped they would be, elegant, luxurious and most importantly inspiring. Each picture has achieved the source of our inspiration which was to showcase the diverse beauty and excellence of Black women to reinforce their humanity. Adding text would distract from this and undermine our aim.

The responses to each of the questions posed to the women will be solely represented on the website which is an accompaniment to the book and provides information on the project and what we hope to achieve.

The book is the art, the website a vector for story telling.
