Our inspiration

The inspiration for our mission comes from the numerous occasions where Black women are spoken on behalf of, ignored, forgotten, or stereotyped. Though times have changed, the narrative still lags behind reality. Black women still endure patronization from the left and isolation from the right. What both sides of the political spectrum forget is your race doesn’t define you. The beauty of an individual is that they are that very thing, individual.  

Through this project we showcase the diverse individuality of Black British female millennials. By collecting such an eclectic mix of women, we aim to dispel preconceptions and leverage the strength of their experiences to address current issues that lack necessary attention. 

Each woman in this project illustrates that personal expectations powerfully shape our future. They reject any idea that excellence is beyond their reach, and have never allowed their ambition to be tainted by the ‘bigotry of low expectations’. Their dedication to high achievement, perseverance, and mastery is an art they've honed to perfection. 

These women represent modern Britain and are the future stewards of it. They are a beacon of hope to all, leading by example and illuminating a path for the next generation to follow. The only thing standing between others and these accomplished women is the breadth of imagination and desire. 

Each of their stories differs, marked by unique highs, lows, struggles, and victories. But the common thread is the perseverance and self-belief that's enabled each to orchestrate their own symphony of success. They exemplify the values of the society we aspire to be, representing a true portrait of our times amid great polarization. They contribute significantly to shaping our society. 

If we could each emulate the women in this project, our society would unlock its full potential. And that's our aim—to inspire everyone who engages with this project to follow in their footsteps and strive for excellence. Black women are here, leading the way, and showing us all how it should be done.
