What did you want to be when you grew up?
I had a few ambitions, I started off when I was very young wanting to be a nurse. I later on figured out that I was alright at athletics so for a while, I wanted to be an athlete. I also around this time started to enjoy drama, so it was a choice between sports or the arts - of which I chose the latter. I trained at East 15 Drama School from 2008 to 2011 to become a performer and took part in the London 2012 games opening ceremony shortly after graduating. I started to review theatre around this time and then set up Theatre Full Stop in 2013.
What do you want most in the future?
I think mental health is incredibly important to focus on and to support more so - so systems that do this well. I’m level 1 Reiki trained, so my aim is to do my level 2 training in the future and explore how I can integrate this within theatre.
What’s been your biggest achievement to date?
10 years of having the opportunity to review great theatre! I’m very grateful for that.
What’s your advice to other women/girls?
If you’re looking to start up your own platform, there are many free website/blog sites you can visit to do so. Think of a name that sums up your brand and a logo too. Remember that you’re writing for an audience, so have an understanding of who this is and how your content caters to them. Take your time to develop your writing style, this’ll evolve the longer you write for - stay true to yourself.
What does it mean being a black woman in your industry?
I’m proud to have created the platform that I have done, this has given me the confidence to continue on with what I’m doing and I hope that this inspires others to do the same. This has been a 16 year journey of integrating my passion for the arts and tech to create a resource that has a life all of its own.
What school did you go to?
Brampton Manor Secondary School.
What is the most important thing in the world to you?
Happiness.
