Fola, Human Resources Executive

  1. What did you want to be when you grew up?

I never had a specific career path. All I knew is that I wanted to be successful, particularly in areas where black women were not well represented.

  2. What do you want most in the future?

I wanted influence and success within any company I work for.

  3. What’s been your biggest achievement to date?

My career has gone as I hoped. By the age of 30 I am the Global Head of HR for an international law firm.

  4. What’s your advice to other women/girls?

Always be adaptable in life. What you want and what actually happens can sometimes be two different things. When things don’t go to plan don’t be afraid to stick with the original plan and get on track or change course completely. Adaptability is the key, there are many right answers to a life and each is unique to an individual.

  5. What does it mean being a black woman in your industry?

Nowadays there are more black women in my position but being a black woman means ensuring that I am a good example or a helpful voice to others. I also feel a particularly strong penchant for supporting younger girls who wish to succeed in similar corporate roles. Sometimes the challenge can be with image e.g. what hairstyle should I do, or can I really share my interests and still fit in? I truly believe the world is becoming more kind and more understanding so I feel the world is opening up to black women so we should push ourselves as far as we’re prepared to go.

  6. What school did you go to?

Blackheath Bluecoats, a Church of England School.

  7. What is the most important thing in the world to you?

My loved ones, life is nothing without love and memories.
